Title: Can't battle because "not enough gold"

I am trying to fight the hooded ones.  I was having a very difficult time getting through it, so I stocked up on potions and bought the best weapons and armor I could find for me and my mercenary.  Now the game says I can't battle because "not enough gold"

Is that correct.

Btw, I hope I am not post too much for a newbie. ;)

Well, it could be because you have no money to pay your mercenaries - they take some money each time they enter a battle.
Try working in the Inn while offline to gain some extra money or try having some battles with less mercenaries just to gain some more money.
If it doesn't help do not hesitate to ask for help again - do not worry about asking too many questions - we will try to answer them faster than I did now with this one.
