The picture of the rough pearl is a jagged, translucent pink shard?
Expensive pearls start out round. The more perfectly round, the more expensive. They still need to be drilled to be part of a necklace, but they aren't cut like gems. It just doesn't make any sense the way you're showing the rough pearl. In addition, the crafting point(s) received is 1 - also suggesting that one doesn't gain much experience with the pearl. Therefore, the obvious solution is to use the round pearl for both the "rough" gem and the "cut" gem, instead of using the strange shard of pink translucence.
