It is long forgotten now.
Much of it was lost, as it happens when the rulers change. Parts of it was deliberately wiped out by the new imperial authority for safety reasons, deemed apocrypha.
But what little remains tells us that ten thousand years ago the Nomad Horde invaded the Ayarr Empire.
Like an unstoppable forest fire the Victorious Steppe Army swept across the southern royal provinces, besieging, slaughtering and pillaging all the strongholds within the vicinity.
And it was here, on this rough, sharp-rocked, stormy land, where the imperials made their last stand against the numerous Steppe Armies. It was here, where the nomad spear clashed with the guardian sword. Pressed between the steep rocky slopes, the sea and the countless nomads, the royal soldier fought for their lives, their country and their beloved queen, who fell heroically in the battle, attempting to brake the Horde’s lines.
The Steppe Sons failed to conquer this province.
And then they continued to fail… for fifty years. Until they finally withdrew.
The Barrier became a symbol of the imperial valor and the soldiers became immortal, setting a shining example for the generations to come of how a person should fight for his freedom and, even, die fighting.
The Horde never succeeded to subjugate the Ayarr Empire. Because of the brave Soldiers of the Barrier.
But all is long forgotten now.
