I trained my Mercenary from Level 8 all the way to Level 10.  However, now that my mercenary is Level 10, I can't give him Tier 2 equipment.  Please help.

Mercs cannot Tier up........ He will always remain Tier 1.......

Whilst not exactly what you wanted to hear, I do hope it resolves the question.

Regards.

Then why am I given the chance to help my merc gain experience... why should I be given the chance to "name" my merc if the developers didn't envision the players becoming attached to the merc and wanting to keep it around longer than a couple levels...

If this was their intention.. they should have planned ahead and allowed for Tier gains for the mercs as well.  A level 30 merc that was originally Level 8, and can only use Tier 1 armor is ridiculous.  The benefit to training a lower Tier'd merc is that his escort wages are cheap... Starting at Tier 2 mercs cost like 4x as much.

Furthermore... why should equipment my merc uses be "bound" to the merc.  Seriously, if I have to remove all of a merc's equipment before I can dismiss him, but that equipment is useless for any other purpose than being equipped to that merc, why should I remove it... dismissing the merc should auto-sell the equipment back to the nearest shop, unless that equipment can be used on another merc.  Selling a set of Tier 1 equipment for 100 gold to the city shop is also stupid.  On auction a set could go for 1k or more.
