Auction House
« on: October 01, 2009, 07:37:40 PM »
the new 5% change on auction house isn't fair and does not give a chance to ppl that is starting to play, starting a profession and have little money to buy resources, it should be a bid like it was.. no sense in changing that.. or at least a 5%increaseon the the last bid.. that is more fair. the buy now should be a perk to end auction earlier so the higher value it has...

Why do you think so? IMO this is a nice change. Previously people tried to increase the bets by 1 gold - ridiculous if an item costs a thousand or more..
Say an item is sold for 100 gold and buy now is 1000. Here we'll have the next possible bid at 200, then 300 and so on. Neat and nice. What worries you here?

I think a +5% of the last bit is better, what about if i put the buy now price at 100K for something that woth 3K starting at 1.
An auction is for taht, just bid a bit more than others to buy something.

Nautrax, if you do like you showed in your example, no one will buy your item and you will loose money on the market commission  :D

no point in being a percentage on the buy now price... the % should be on the last bid value. otherwise you have sky-rocket bids because ppl put buy now prices too high. maybe you have been playing for a long time, but others that started recently can't afford some bids like that on low things like gears and resources. it's called common sense. the buy now is a advantage you pay for getting the item out of auction earlier, so bids shouldn't be on it.

I gave it a thought and I agree with you guys, it's better to have next bid step as 5% of the current bid than of the BuyNow price. It is really cutting number of potential participants and decreases the flexibility of pricing.
Example - Armor, current bet is 800, BuyNow is set to 4000. So the next possible bet is 800+4000*0.05=1000. If noone is willing to pay a 1000 - seller will get only 800. But if the increment was 5% of the current bet, situation would be following 800+800*0.05=840, perhaps someone would even bet once more, so the seller would get 840 or ~880 gold. Perhaps even ~920. So we have a much better flexibility to determine real price of the item so the seller can get the best possible offer.
Devs, please give it a thought.

Finally you understood what i meant Charon :) i think it's a more reasonably input %. Please GO consider it, putting the 5% or another % on the last bid instead of the buy now.
It's not the +1 gold like it used to be (not really a nice bid i agree, but against me, i did this sometimes) :P but it wouldn't be also a major up priced bid.

This is nonsense now I see things for sale that start at $1.00 and buy now @ crazy high buy now$100,000- $300,000 so first guy bids a buck and next bid is $29,000 so first dude wins for a buck.

that's the problem in depending in the buy now price insteld of the last bid...

It only sucks for the guy selling the item. He shouldn't have listed the item with a start price of Zero gold. If he wants to guarantee a certain amount, he should start the bidding higher.

i bet u the person that bids 1 is the owner, because that way he pays little for posting the item on auction ;) besides it shouldn't be allowed for the owner to bid on his own item, nor bid on your last bid... that is my opinion.
