No light hides for non tier 1 heros?

Is it true that you cannot get light hides if you are not a tanner (duh..) and not tier 1???

I completed the storyline in hopes village by killing Rolon's brother in the multistage even though I was tier 2. So tier >1 tanners can attack but don't recieve hides? is that it?

No that is not correct. A tanner always has a chance at collecting hides, regardless of his level....BUT, the more levels there are between you and your prey, the harder the gathering will become.

I doubt anyone knows the exact formula. I believe since light hides are a drop from monsters, they are affected by the level difference modifier, which is explained here :

Therefore, its better to be within 1 level of difference of the enemy to have the best chance to skin hides.
