Here you are, one of my favorite old strategy games!
Let's give some hints...
Turn based strategy around '98. Basically, the game that made its series the second best fantasy strategy series of all time (first is considered the Heroes of Might and Magic). The player was given control of a race of his choice (Knights, Undead, Knights, Dwarves, Orcs, Knights
) and battled against both the enemy factions (every faction was given one starting castle) and the neutral ones (the additional ones on the map). The game also featured heroes, units with unique abilities and the power to wield artifacts, found in special adventures (usually grave digging, runes razing, etc). The interesting part of the gameplay was that when the player defeated a castle, they had 3 choices. First choice was to occupy the castle, a choice that gave him the ability to keep all the castle buildings intact and use them to summon units of that race. Second was to loot the castle, which gave a really good resources output, left the buildings intact but they could not be used by the attacker. The third choice was to raze the castle, which basically leveled the whole place flat, rendering it non-usable.
If you still can't find it after that, I'll begin giving out letters of the name.
