gold only market
« on: September 29, 2009, 09:32:30 PM »
"As of today, 29.09.2009, selling and buying for Diamonds in the Auction House is terminated. From now on all the deals will be made in gold only."

My personal opinion is that this is the worst change in the game. Making diamonds from the market was quite exciting, for me at least it was one of the best things to do in IH.

Well, it is still beta phase of the game, so changes are kind of normal, but there should be improvements, not stuff that will keep people away from the auction.

At first I thought so too, but on a second thought...
Having two currencies in the game is making economy chaotic, especially after introducing gold-diamonds market. Since the prices in diamonds and gold were quite different for some items it was probably possible to earn money without doing anything. Just buy something for say 1k gold, sell it for 1 diamond, sell that diamond for 5k gold. Voila - we have 4k gold profit.
I think having only 1 currency is a good thing. After few days economy will stabilize, prices in gold will go down. I think diamonds will also cost cheaper than 5k today. Let's jsut wait and see how the new changes work out. We'll always be able to complain if they don't  ;)

There are a couple issues.

Diamonds will not only go down in value, they will be virtually useless. The items currently listed in the market for diamonds will eventually expire or be sold - so all items in auction will cost gold. The amount of items in the stores that people will buy with diamonds, or use for special packages, will be minimal.

The price of special items (blue, yellow, purple) will be very high and will actually balance-out the game.
 - consider this. I recently entered Tier 3 (lvl 20) and bought all the great Tier3 stuff I could find for diamonds, regardless of cost. Instantly, I had the same equipment (or better) than most other Tier 3 players and could probably beat many lvl 29 players. This was possible because I paid cash for diamonds and then bought everything I needed. I 'bought' my ability to win. Now that diamonds cannot be used in the auction, players must actually PLAY THE GAME and SAVE THEIR GOLD in order to get the 100,000 gold needed for an epic body armour. It will take much longer to get enough gold to buy all the great items. Players will have to buy mediocre stuff, then upgrade bit-by-bit. It evens things out. That being said, it will suck for the guy that enters Tier 3 next week and all the good stuff has been re-listed in the auction for gold!

Another issue I have been wondering about is.... How is IH going to earn money? This game is a business that needs to earn money for the company. If people aren't buying diamonds very often, how will this game be profitable?

in this game you have lot place from were you can get gold. you can auction house, shops, dungeons and casino. auction house without selling provisions is not profitable but now you have all items on auction with commission which means you have to pay "tax" in game for diamonds

This only works is someone is willing to buy your diamonds. If nobody wants diamonds, then listing them in the diamond market is pointless. I saw a value to the diamond market when the auction house still accepted diamonds, but now that it doesn't, I don't see much point.

It was the same thing before.. If nobody wanted your items, you could not sell them! Players rule the market, it works this way! You can get gold by selling items, and then buy diamonds for that gold! What's the problem with this system?

Anyway, I will not comment anymore, because it's useless to say reasons why it was better before.

But I sincerely hope that the auction will come back to normal prices soon cause I see legendary stuff for the equivalent of 0.9 diamond for instant buy or epic boots for the equivalent of 30 diamonds. That really makes crafting useless.

There is little point in buying diamonds when there is very little use for them. The items available in the stores are not as good as the ones in the auction, so the diamonds will rarely be spent there. Apart from completing crafting quickly and buying premium packages, there is no use for diamonds.

Because of that, there is very little point to selling diamonds. Yes, players rule the market, but the programmers are deciding the currency. It was an odd decision to make a Diamond Market, and then remove the largest use for diamonds (auction house). If we can't use the diamonds, why would anyone buy them?

Had the programmers left the diamonds in the auction house, I think the Diamond Market would have been a great idea, but presently, I think it is a waste.

Items in NPC shops are sent for gold only now. You can use the diamonds for premium packages and premium extras.

Who knows, it could work this way too. The game is changing everyday, we'll see.

New changes only complicate life for Premium members, not others.
Before - > premium member can chose his item and just buy it, because in auction house ~ 80% of all good epic/unique items was in Diamond currency and it means - competition are only other premium members for epic/unique auction items.
Now -> premium member must sell his gemstones for gold and only after that he can buy item.. this is little bit complicated, because for simple player gemstones are like extra, but they can play this game without gems to. They use to it! Now premium member have a concurrent's in auction house not only from Premium members rank, now simple player can buy what he want - he have gold but he don't have a Gems and if he want gems he can buy it from Premium members, because they need gold.

Changes isn't so bad how it looks form start.  :)
